The Chaconne from the d minor Partita of J.S. Bach for solo violin has long fascinated musical theorists, historians, and performers. It is a Chaconne of enormous development and proportion, especially when we consider that it was written for a solo instrument. Brahms transcribed the Chaconne as an exercise for piano left hand. The bass clarinet again shows itself to be very adaptable in this attractive transcription of the Chaconne for bass clarinet or clarinet. While challenging both technique and endurance, the Chaconne can be successfully played on either soprano or bass clarinet, but is a particularly powerful musical experience as performed on bass clarinet.

Please note that the Chaconne is also available as part of our larger publication of selections from the Sonatas & Partitas. We will continue to offer this separate publication, however, both because of its popularity and also the loose-leaf presentation, which prevents problems with page turns.
